SMRWG in the News…

The Milk River Project

The Milk River Project diverts water from the St. Mary River on the Blackfeet Reservation, flowing through northern Montana and Glacier National Park, and across southern Alberta, Canada.

The Milk River Project is essential to fulfill Montana’s water demands, catering to eight irrigation districts, Reclamation pump contracts, private contracts, the Blackfeet and Fort Belknap Indian Reservation, and other living communities along the Milk River.

Our Mission:

The primary mission of the SMRWG is to develop a “workable solution” for rehabilitating the St. Mary Facilities before they face catastrophic failure. This solution must be reasonable, sensible, and responsible, even if it doesn’t satisfy every interest completely.

Historic Foundations

With over a century of operation, the Milk River Project continues to meet the needs of North-Central Montana and beyond.
